About Me.
Maria Fotea was born in Kalamata in 1959. She studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1981–1986), under professors P. Tetsis and D. Mitaras, and also studied Decorative Arts at the Vakalo School, with a three-year scholarship from the I.K.Y. (Greek State Scholarship Foundation).
In 1988–1992, she served as a member of the visual arts committee of the Municipality of Athens.
She has been a member of the Forum of Young Architects, and in 1988 represented Greece in an international competition in Nessebar, Bulgaria, where she was awarded a prize.
She has taught Decorative Arts at private schools (A.K.T.O., Campus) and participated in Educational Programs by PLATO for 20 years.
She has also worked as a set designer and has designed stage sets for three theatrical productions: Circle, Antigone, and Medea.
She has presented her work in many solo and group exhibitions. Her artworks can be found in the National Gallery and in private collections.
She lives and works in Athens.
